The 2nd Workshop on Whole-Lifecycle Security for Smart Systems: Methods and Tools (LIFESEC) workshop, held on 22 June 2026 in Messina as part of IEEE SmartComp 2026, brought together around 15 participants and was marked by lively discussions following the presentations. It was also one of the conference’s most attended workshops, reflecting the strong interest in the topics covered.
The programme included eight research presentations, covering different aspects of whole-lifecycle security, including cybersecurity certification and compliance, IoT attack and anomaly detection, vulnerability and firmware security, digital twins and cloud security. The presentations led to active discussions with the audience, allowing participants to exchange views and experiences on the challenges presented.
A key part of the workshop was the interactive session “Tools and Techniques for Whole-Lifecycle Security”. During the session, TELEMETRY introduced and demonstrated its tools and use cases for whole-lifecycle security, while participants had the opportunity to provide feedback and discuss their practical application.
With its strong attendance and active participation, LIFESEC stood out as one of the key workshops of IEEE SmartComp 2026. It also offered a useful opportunity for the participating projects to exchange experiences, discuss common challenges and strengthen collaboration around whole-lifecycle security.
The workshop was co-organised by the Horizon Europe projects TELEMETRY, DOSS, EMERALD, COBALT, CUSTODES and CURIUM. It brought together researchers, industry professionals and other stakeholders to exchange views on approaches, methods and tools for cybersecurity across the lifecycle of IoT and cyber-physical systems.
