The TELEMETRY project will co-organise the second edition of the workshop “Whole-Lifecycle Security for Smart Systems: Methods and Tools (LIFESEC)”, which will take place on 22nd June 2026 in Messina, Italy. The workshop will be hosted within the programme of the 12th IEEE International Conference on Smart Computing (SMARTCOMP 2026).
LIFESEC 2026 focuses on security challenges affecting smart, connected, and cyber-physical systems throughout their entire lifecycle, from initial design and development to deployment, operation and long-term maintenance. The workshop aims to provide a dedicated forum for researchers and practitioners working on integrated security approaches that combine technical solutions with organisational practices and regulatory requirements.
Researchers and practitioners interested in contributing to the workshop should note that the paper submission deadline is 9th March 2026, with notifications of acceptance scheduled for 29th April 2026. Accepted papers will be presented during the LIFESEC workshop in Messina.
The workshop will address issues related to access control and secure device management, large-scale updates and patching, and the modelling of security threats and risks in cyber-physical environments. It will also explore methodologies supporting security by design as well as security during system operation, with particular attention to certification, auditability, and assurance mechanisms.
Further discussion will focus on supply-chain transparency and device provenance, secure bootstrapping and commissioning, and compliance with European regulatory frameworks, including the Cybersecurity Act, the General Data Protection Regulation and the Cyber Resilience Act. Emerging challenges related to artificial intelligence and advanced computing systems will also be examined, covering AI-assisted security testing, security for AI-enabled systems, digital twins, quantum computing resilience and privacy considerations in computer vision.
LIFESEC 2026 is jointly organised by a group of Horizon Europe projects active in the field of cybersecurity and trusted smart systems, namely TELEMETRY, DOSS, EMERALD, COBALT, CUSTODES and CURIUM. The joint organisation reflects ongoing cooperation across the European research and innovation community on whole-lifecycle security.
